'Beyond the classroom'

​

 In collaboration with our partner team at Cloybank Estate, we have designed and developed this program that encompasses practically every sphere of learning.

​

Each program can be tailored to the school/training needs, thus enabling Head Teachers and Managers to employ the SkillZone resource in the most positive and beneficial way.

 

However, we can also design and deliver bespoke programs designed to meet the specific needs of any school and young people.

 

By provision of nationally recognized qualifications and awards, combined with a practical approach to developing life skills we are confident that young people will be better equipped and more confident to further their skills.

Both programs focus on experiential learning and the distinct benefits this offers the learners. Experiential learning is a powerful way to help people identify changes required to their skills, attitudes, and behaviours, and then implement those changes for better performance.

​

Your program will be delivered by a qualified tutor with vast experience working in the education sector.  In addition to having the appropriate academic qualifications, our tutors have the relevant disclosure plus varied life experiences which means they can offer first-hand advice and support. This combination of qualifications and life experience gives young people an interactive and diverse experience.

We always aim to celebrate the success of the learners with a formal event within the school, this is an ideal opportunity to ask parents to attend and present the young people with their certificate and medal they have been working hard to achieve

School challenger program

The Challenger Program

One academic year, 2 hours per week x 36 weeks =72 learning hours

​

The Challenger Program is designed to consolidate learning by demonstrating how certain character attributes can be applied to different situations. The emphasis is for participants to experience the impact that individuals ( especially themselves) make on group performance, how groups can influence decision-making, and how character values can contribute to the quality of outcome and the type of decisions reached.

​

The program promotes ( but is not restricted to)

  • teamwork

  • resilience

  • self - belief

This is achieved by the delivery of structured sessions with an emphasis on experiential learning. Participation is encouraged and healthy competition helps ensure that there is a progressive learning curve.

​

The Challenger Program also has an element of bushcraft and fire-lighting using natural methods, this is delivered after appropriate risk assessments have been carried out and an in-depth safety brief has been conducted by the Lead Instructor.

Challenger Plus +: includes all of the above with the addition of an overnight camp

The Let's Go Program

2 hours per week x 20 weeks = 40 learning hours

 

An instructor will typically go into a school for one session a week for 20 weeks to offer a structured curriculum featuring facilitated workshops and community projects, with lots of opportunities for reflection. This gives students the chance to embed knowledge and behaviors through experience.

 

The program promotes ( but is not restricted to )

  • teamwork

  • interdependency

  • resilience

 

The class will be expected to work together to achieve different challenges of varying skill levels as they develop personal and team working skills.

 

The program can be tailored to cross-reference with a specific school task or project, like gaining the ECO flag or a community-based endeavor.

We know how difficult it can be to find a reliable teacher that focuses on Test Prep. Teachers need to be able to motivate and guide students to success. As an experienced Special Education Tutor, I can identify students’ problem areas and work with them in positive, constructive ways to achieve success. I design my lessons according to my student’s needs, with an emphasis on confidence-boosting activities.

The Stepping Up Program

 2 hours per week x 39 weeks = 78 learning hours

​

Ideal for varying school groups and can be a combination of the following awards, qualifications, and subjects:

  1. SQA Employability award ( 40 hours)

  2. Emergency First Aid at Work (12 hours)

  3. Bushcraft (negotiable)

  4. National Navigation Award (6 hours)

  5. ASDAN Bronze ( 60 hours), leading to silver if on a two-year course

  6. Heart Start ( 6 hours)

  7. Experiential learning (6 hours)

  8. Leadership and Teamwork (negotiable)

  9. CEOP and Social Media Awareness ( negotiable)

  10. John Muir Award

  11. Duke of Edinburgh, Bronze*

  12. Mindfulness and resilience ( negotiable)

  13. Sports Leader award

  14. Adventure training ( negotiable)

  15. Coaching and Mentoring

  16. Personal Development ( road safety, racism, bullying, drug awareness, etc.)

National Navigation Awards

The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) was launched in 1994 at the Royal Institute of Navigation in London, and since then over 50,000 people of all ages have gained awards.  Thousands of people of all ages have benefited from the skills learnt on an NNAS course.

Assessment

The selected program will support a wide range of learning activities and flexible approaches to assessment, we will do our very best to ensure every participant achieves the maximum from each qualification/award undertaken.

 

This will include:

  • Assessor observation

  • Self- evaluation

  • Peer evaluation

  • Personal statements

  • Identifying strengths and areas for development

  • Identifying skills and qualities

  • Setting achievable targets ( S.M.A.R.T)

  • Project-based assessment activities

  • Practical activities

  • Verbal or written questions

  • Individual or group presentations

Where appropriate we will use the school SQA registration procedure for relevant awards, this ensures the school directly gains the credit points and have access to the relevant quality control and internal verification processes.

 

In accordance with GDPR, we will not retain a piece of information unless directed to by the relevant governing body.​
